Starting in 2010, all [new homes in Hawaii will be required to use solar water heaters](http://greenbuildingelements.com/2008/07/07/hawaii-mandates-solar-hot-water/ "solar hot water Hawaii").

What a great idea! What took them so long? I’m sure there are other areas of the country that could follow this example. Here in Colorado, we have over 300 days of sunshine a year, for instance!
