It’s funny how violently some people react when I talk about parasites. There’s an assumption that having a parasitic infection is a sign of poor personal hygiene, and wow, is that an easy way to offend people!

But the truth is that it is absurdly easy to pick up a parasite in ways that have nothing to do with personal cleanliness habits. Remember that outbreak of cyclospora during the summer of 2026 that was spread through lettuce? At least 24,000 people were unknowingly infected just because they ate lettuce for lunch.

Whenever I talk about parasites, I get a lot of pushback, and since I just completed a month or so of [podcast episodes](http://podcast.elizabethyarnell.net) about parasites (and released clips of them onto social media), I’ve been seeing more than the usual vitriol against natural health.

Since the job of a parasite is to find a host, take up residence, and reproduce happily ever after, and your immune system is primed to react against foreign invaders like virus and bacteria, your symptoms of pain, discomfort, or dysfunction can never fully resolve until you clear out the parasites. Welcome to chronic inflammation and autoimmunity.

I honestly don’t mind because hidden parasitic infection is something I see so often in my clinic in people suffering from autoimmune or other chronic conditions.

If you wonder if you might have a parasitic infection, take my [parasite quiz](https://elizabethyarnell.com/WP/wp-content/uploads/wp-mfa-exports/page/parasite-quiz.md) to learn more.
